My name is Debbie Condry, and I am excited to join the faculty at McConnell Elementary this year.  For the past 10 years, I have been the librarian at Battle Academy in downtown Chattanooga.  Both my children attended Battle from kindergarten through fifth grade.  What a blessing it was to have them close to me during their early years.  My daughter, Virginia, is a 9th grader, and my son, Aidan, is in 7th grade.  Both are attending CCA.  I look forward to teaching all of the students at McConnell and encouraging their learning with great literature and information strategies.

I have many interests and hobbies.  Of course I love to read.  My favorite place to be is in my hammock in my garden with a good book.  My husband and I enjoy working in our yard.  I like planting things, and he likes building things.  Currently we are working on a treehouse for our teenagers.  Perhaps the most interesting thing about me is that we have eight pets.  The five indoor pets include: a dog, two cats, a parakeet, and a beta fish. Our three goats live outside.  There is never a dull moment at the Condry home.

Of all my 19 years in education, being an elementary school librarian is by far the most rewarding experience. I enjoy collaborating with classroom teachers to foster effective instruction and engaging activities based on standards and connected to classroom content. The best part of my job is watching the children mature from year to year and helping them build life-long learning skills. The opportunity to instill a love of reading and nurture a sense of discovery is a priceless gift!
