Hello My Name Is...

Joan Tonkinson

I have been teaching music for many years. This is my twenty-sixth year at McConnell. I majored in music performance but found that teaching music was just as fulfilling as performing it. Since then, I have taught music on various levels. In addition to teaching elementary general music here at McConnell, I teach private lessons in voice and piano after school, and until recently was an associate director with the Chattanooga Girls Choir. As a music teacher, I enjoy helping students learn to read and perform music and expand their musical horizons. My hope is that the students I teach here at McConnell will be enriched by their musical experiences and make music a part of their lives.
